Raising the Bar is Suffolk’s programme to improve levels of educational attainment across the county.
Led by Suffolk County Council and working together with education providers, families, communities and businesses, Raising the Bar will ensure that every child can achieve their full potential, build a strong reputation for Suffolk education and deliver wider benefits for the county and its economy.
The aims of Raising the Bar are to enable:
- Every child to achieve their full potential
- Every child to attend a good or outstanding provider
- Every child to have the best preparation for life before and beyond school
Since Raising the Bar launched in 2012, we have seen a 20% increase in the number of Suffolk schools being judged ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. 87% of schools are now judged ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ and we’re improving at a faster rate than those nationally.

Celebrating success is an important part of the Raising the Bar programme. Sharing best practice and highlighting excellence are essential to inspire others, and continue to raise the bar across Suffolk.
Now in the fourth year, the success of the Raising the Bar Awards means that they have become part of the education calendar in Suffolk. A total of 11 awards will be presented to the people, places and projects that are Raising the Bar in Suffolk.
These include awards for children and young people from early years right through to post-16 education and training. Other categories include awards for outstanding teachers, educational leaders, support staff and volunteers.
However, the awards are not just for individuals. Award categories also recognise a school or setting of the year, school governors or committees, as well as collaboration and innovation projects, and a business partner working with a school and inspiring young people. The awards are now open for nominations and close on 1 May 2018.
By sponsoring the Raising the Bar Awards you can support us to give the stars of Suffolk education the recognition that they deserve at the glittering awards ceremony on 10 July 2018 at Trinity Park, Ipswich.
