Winner Rising Star of the Year – Secondary
Rhys Turnbull – Priory School
Rhys had been struggling socially and academically, but his life changed when he was asked to represent his school in an athletics competition. He has now represented his school in football, athletics, cross country and swimming, as well as representing the Eastern region. Rhys is now following his dream of becoming a Paralympic athlete and is ranked 4th in the UK over 400m. Rhys has been on an amazing journey over the past two years, growing in confidence and achieving beyond expectations in his academic studies.
Abbie Wood – Education Other than at School (EOTAS)
Abbie has spent the past two years receiving home tuition, as she is too ill to attend school. Her illness means that she is restricted to two 90-minute sessions of one-to one teaching a week, yet she has a thirst for knowledge. Her lessons focus on Maths, English and Science for written work, which is submitted to her school for assessment to ensure she is treated the same as her peers. Abbie is a bright, intelligent pupil and is described as a joy to work with.
Charlotte Ward – IES UK Breckland
Despite facing personal barriers, Charlotte has overcome these and has strived to make the most of her education. She is exceeding her GCSE targets and has perfect attendance. She was also appointed Head Girl at IES Breckland, where she has diligently completed all of her duties. Her teachers say she is a role model to all other students and staff at the school. She has overcome huge barriers within the last year and they are extremely proud of her.
