Samantha Whitby – Suffolk One

Over the last two years, Samantha has battled with cancer, having major surgery and has had to delay her final year of study due to having to undertake extensive chemotherapy. Despite this she has achieved an A* in her project work, is predicted A*, A and B grades in her A-Level subjects, and she was the first Year 13 student to submit her UCAS application. She is a role model and inspiration to her fellow students and staff, and her teachers say that she has been a delight to teach and support.

Shortlisted Finalists

Jamie Shepherd – West Suffolk College

Jamie is currently in his fourth year at West Suffolk College on the Supported Internship Course, which focusses on developing employability skills in college and putting these skills into practice within the workplace. Despite facing difficulties, his fellow students comment on his work ethic, and his peers look up to him as the hard work he puts in is shown in his desire to succeed.

Laura Bizzey – Suffolk One

Having previously been home educated due to illness, Laura has adapted extremely well to the sixth-form environment and the demands of an A-Level programme. She is performing extremely well in all subjects and is now considering going to university to study Spanish, something she would not have dreamed of when she first arrived at One. Her determination and courage are to be congratulated.
