Winner Rising Star of the Year – Early Years
Sarah Waller – Barnham Primary
Sarah was born prematurely at 29 weeks, then at the age of two she was diagnosed with Hepatoblastoma, an uncommon cancer of the liver. After undergoing surgery and intensive chemotherapy, she finished treatment, but starting reception class she was behind her peers in many areas of development. Starting school as a shy and reserved child, Sarah showed true grit and determination to overcome the obstacles in her early years to emerge into a confident, capable and charismatic young learner.
Anders Bester – Moulton Primary
Anders struggled with starting school in reception class in September, finding it very hard. Just six weeks into him starting school his mum broke her leg, and was unable to give her son the same level of support. However, something good came from bad and Anders had to be brave and try really hard to settle at school. He found it hard but slowly and bravely he overcame his fears. He is now a different child, an amazing change in the shy little man that started school back in September.
Oliver Whittington – Oulton Broad Primary
Oliver was diagnosed with a medical condition at birth, and uses a K-walker frame to move around. Attending Oulton Broad full time, he takes part in all school activities including playtime, P.E, after school sports clubs and school dinners, and his classmates are used to lending him a hand. Oliver has achieved expected progress in the Early Years curriculum despite his physical difficulties.
